FormBroderStyle FIXED3D和ISMDICONTAINER

I am using Visual Studio 2012 Prof.  When I select FormBorderStyle FIXED3D the form shows the FIXED3D, but when I execute the application (debug) the form does not show the FIXED3D unless I select ISMDICONTAINER TRUE, but then my BACKCOLOR turn to a dark gray and I can not change the BACKCOLOR.  The backcolor is always dard gray when I have ISMDICONTAINER TRUE.   Question:  How can I get FIXED3D and have my backcolor anything other than dark gray?
